40th birthday quotes are funny and sometimes laced with black humor. Here are my favorite quotes and 40th birthday sayings. This is by famous author Bruce Lansky: "I much prefer being over the hill to being under it." I feel the same way! How about you? From one of my favorite writers - darling Charles Schulz: "Once you're over the hill, you begin to pick up speed." Isn't this a great way to look at life! |
Famous Poet Robert Frost once said: "A diplomat is a man who always remembers a woman's birthday but never remembers her age." Boy isn't that the truth! Pitty the poor man who forgets a birthday but remembers her age . . . he won't last! |

Here's an excellent example of black humor from one of my favorite comedians, Jerry Seinfeild:
“Well, birthdays are merely symbolic of how another year has gone by and how little we've grown.
No matter how desperate we are that someday a better
self will emerge, with each flicker of the candles on the cake, we know
it's not
to be, that for the rest of our sad, wretched pathetic
lives, this is who we are to the bitter end.
Inevitably, irrevocably; happy birthday?
No such thing.”
Wow - I think I prefer the more upbeat ones but I can just see Jerry delivering this in his deadpan way!
This is from writer Helen Rowland:
“Life begins at 40 - but so do fallen arches, rheumatism, faulty eyesight, and the tendency to tell a story to the same person, three or four times.”
I think this is my very favorite one:
“Forty isn't old, if you're a tree”
How funny is that!
